Tips for Opening DOX Files

When you need to open DOX files, start by double-clicking it. Your computer will try to open it automatically. If that doesn’t work, try the following tips.

1. Download another program.

Different file extensions work with different programs, and it can be difficult to figure out which program opens which files. Here are a few programs that usually work with DOX files:

  • Unknown Apple II File
  • Actuate Basic Information Object
  • Text File
  • Word Text Document
  • Visual Basic User Document Binary Form File
  • MultiMate Document

You can download one of these programs from the software developer’s website.

2. Look at the file type.

The file type can sometimes tell you which program might open the file. If you have DOX files, they are most likely types of Developer Files. A program that works with Developer Files should open DOX files.

Don’t know the file type? You can find it by right-clicking the file and selecting “Properties” or “More Info.” The file type will be listed under “Type of File” or “Kind”.

3. Check with the software developer.

Try contacting the developer of one of the programs mentioned above. They can help you figure out why your DOX file won’t open. Some of the most common developers are listed below.

Software Developer

Actuate Basic Information Object Actuate Corporation
Text File Windows Software
Word Text Document Microsoft Corporation
Visual Basic User Document Binary Form File Microsoft Corporation
